HELLO

I'm a postgraduate games developer who enjoys looking for problems to solve when part of a team. Rather than react to problems, it is best to be proactive in the search for them. I enjoy digging deep and looking for the routes of contradictions, which is why I enjoy project development as a process of planning and adaptation.

I have been building games for five years and have also developed skills outside of game production. I'm always interested in learning new skills to help colleagues out. These T-shaped skills have enabled the teams I have joined to function effectively through effective communication, allowing me to take on tasks outside of my specialism. It is best to be versatile rather than just a flexible specialist, as it provides first-hand experience to a problem by providing contextual information.

PRODUCTION

My primary speciality, driven by my fascination with the organisation and function of projects, encompasses strategic planning to pipeline management. I enjoy being Logistical and a facilitator. Alongside the routines expected of a producer, I also enjoy surveying the needs of developers to ensure that development not only runs smoothly, but the drive of individuals remains effective. Production also requires brutal decisions to ensure the project stays on track and the team remains focused.

GAMES DESIGN

Despite my difficulties with engine tasks, I have learned the key elements of game design and operated either as a co-designer or lead designer. I have found that my Logistical skills from Production enhance the perspective of my Game Design skills. I have designed mechanics and levels influenced by logistical estimates, such as how long it will take, who our target audience is, and how we plan to build. Game design requires an understanding of contributing factors.

PLAYTESTING

I take playtesting very seriously as a form of intelligence gathering. User data has the most significant impact on the project pipeline, even in the waterfall approach. No matter how well predicted and crafted, the material reality will always contradict the abstract vision. Competent and analytical playtesting helps navigate the course of the game's journey.

NARRATIVE DESIGN

My skills in narrative design are focused on a game's broad narrative purpose, reflected in its gameplay structure, world-building and player engagement. Even if the game isn't as narrative-focused, most players will still construct a narrative from what unintended scraps there. Narrative also provides direction and intent rather than just entertainment. Players can develop feelings for disposable, aggressive, and faceless NPCs when written with enough empathy.
